There is nothing better than spending time with family, especially on family game night. When I was a kid we had family game nights often and I loved them! We played board games, video games, trivia games and still to this day, when we get together as adults, one of us always has a new fun game to play. If you are looking for some good games to play, here are some fun family game night ideas to try.
Fun Family Game Night Ideas
1 – Catch Phrase (ages 12+)
This is one of my favorites because it moves fast. It works like hot potato. You have a couple of teams that play. When one person has the game device in their hand, they have to get their teammates to guess what phrase the device is displaying. Once they do, they pass it on to the other team so they can do the same thing. While this is happening, there is an internal timer that is counting down and if the buzzer goes off while you are holding it, the other team gets a point. Don’t be surprised if the game device gets thrown around like a hot potato.
2 – Apples To Apples (ages 12+)
Apples to Apples is one of those games you just HAVE to try. This game will have you and your whole family in tears (happy tears). There are a series of description cards and thing cards. One player chooses a description card that contains an adjective like “hairy”. The other players must then play a thing card in their hand that they feel best matches the descriptions. The player of the description card must then choose the best thing card played. Most of the time the description cards and adjective cards don’t match at all making some pretty hilarious combinations.
3 – Elefun (ages 3+)
This is a fun family game for the whole family including tiny toddlers. I have a toddler at home and I don’t want to leave him out of our family game nights. If you feel the same, this is a great game to play. Little butterflies are inside a little elephant that sits in the center of the room. Once you turn the elephant on, it shoots the little butterflies in the air and everyone must catch the butterflies in tiny nets as they fall to the ground. I’ve had this throughout the years and my kids love it. It’s even fun for the bigger kids.
4 – Scene It (ages 13+)
I am a movie fanatic so I absolutely love this game. It’s a trivia game/board game. You watch a DVD that has all kinds of trivia games about movies. You have to use your Tinseltown knowledge to guess each answer. Scene It sells out quickly so check your local store before you go buy it. There are also other versions of the game as well. Disney, Marvel, and Nickelodeon just to name a few.
5 – UNO Flash
I’m not really a big fan of card games but I always liked UNO. UNO Flash is an electronic game version of UNO that is face-paced and exciting. To be honest, I am not even sure if they manufacture this game often anymore because when you come across one it is sooo expensive. If it ever comes back full force, I suggest picking this one up.
6 – Bean Boozled
Honestly, I’ve never played this on family game night and I never plan on playing this game. Why? Because I’ll end up getting too grossed out if I have to eat jelly beans flavored like dead fish or spoiled milk. I hear it’s fun to play with your kids though! If you ever want to get back at your kids, play this with them and don’t tell them about the bad flavors. When they eat a horrible tasting jelly bean, get ready to take some pictures.
