Trying to make others like you should never be a major goal in life. That will lead to a life of frustration, anger, and low self-esteem. Unfortunately, some of us aim to please no matter what and that will get you nowhere. If you fall into this category, this article is not for you. Instead you should try boosting your confidence. This article is for those of you who have a problem being likeable no matter what you try. Maybe you have resting bitch face. Or you have problems making friends, or finding dates. Maybe you are just a big douche who wants to change. If you fall into these categories, then here are 6 ways you can be more likeable.
1 – Smile More
Smiling is #1 on the list because it shows that you are approachable, confident, warm and friendly. It is the most important habit to have to be more likeable. Smile at each person you pass and throw in a “hey, how’s it going,” if you can.
2 – Listen More / Talk Less
If you are known to take over or dominate conversations, then stop. Just because no one says anything to you, trust me, people are annoyed and do not like it. You have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Listen twice as much as you talk. Be an active listener as well. Instead of thinking about what you are going to say next, really pay attention to the person speaking and ask questions to show you are engaged.
3 – Be Dependable
Be the person someone can count on no matter what. If you say you are going to do something or be somewhere, then do it.
4 – Don’t Judge or Complain
If you want to be more likeable, then don’t judge others or complain. If you are judging a person in front of someone else, in the back of their mind, they may wonder if you talk about them as well.
5 – Be Responsible For Your Mistakes
Never avoid taking responsibility for your mistakes. Own them and apologize if the situation requires as quickly as possible. Sure someone may be upset with you, but in the long-term they will like, and respect you more.
6 – Help When You Can
If someone asks for your help, especially at the office, help them! Don’t pawn them off or reply, “that’s not my job.” Even if it is not your job, go above and beyond to do what you can.
If you have trouble coming off as friendly, practice these 6 habits to be more likeable.
